Tests are included for the following, the results of which
are graded Light Duty, Middle Duty, Heavy Duty or Severe
Duty: Test 1a - Slamming shut impact Test 1b -
Slamming open impact Test 2 - Heavy body impact (such as
the human body) Test 3 - Hard body impact (such as a
piece of furniture) Test 4 - Torsion (e.g. attempting to
free a sticking door) Test 5 - Downward deformation
(e.g. a child swinging on thehandle) Test 6 - Closure
against obstruction Test 7 - Resistance to jarring and
vibration Test 8 - Resistance to abusive force (e.g.
pulling against handles).
DD 171 also refers to other performance
criteria, such as fire resistance and sound reduction, dealt
with elsewhere in this document.
